Surveying Assistant/Building Architect

Our Madrid office is growing and we are pleased to be recruiting for Building Architect/Surveying Assistant to join our thriving team. Working closely within our multi-skilled team, you can expect a fast-paced role with exposure to a lucrative client base. You will take on a variety of instructions across building surveying including project management, Technical Due Diligence, ESG/sustainability, condition and acquisition surveys and more.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with 1-2 years’ experience looking to develop their skillset to become a well rounded consultant, and to become part of an exceptional team that will support with the delivery and strategy of Hollis’ building services in Spain and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Assist with data collection and analysis, site visits, and report preparation across multiple service lines.
- Support the preparation of Technical Due Diligence (TDD) reports, including document reviews, site inspections, and risk assessments for a variety of asset types.
- Contribute to Development Monitoring by tracking construction progress, verifying compliance with contractual milestones, and preparing progress reports for clients and investors.
- Assist in Project and Cost Management tasks such as budget preparation, procurement support, cost tracking, and final account reconciliation.
- Participate in Programme Management by helping to monitor project timelines, identify delays, and propose corrective actions.
- Support the delivery of Reinstatement Cost Assessments (RCA) by data collection and analysis, site visits, report preparation.
- Contribute to Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) strategies by evaluating system lifespans, identifying maintenance needs, and supporting the development of maintenance schedules.
- Conduct energy modelling and thermal simulations to evaluate building performance, align with sustainability benchmarks like CRREM, and identify energy efficiency opportunities.
- Offer MEP support to the team for any project needs.
- Support Environmental Due Diligence (EDD): Assist with site visits, data collection, and report preparation for Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, including historical research and regulatory database reviews.
- Contribute to ESG Reporting: Help gather and analyse environmental data (e.g., energy consumption, water usage, waste generation) for ESG reports, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with relevant frameworks.
- Assist with Sustainability Certifications: Provide support for LEED and BREEAM certification processes, including documentation preparation, credit analysis, and coordination with project teams.
- EU Taxonomy & Climate Risk Assessment Support: Aid in the collection and analysis of data for EU Taxonomy alignment assessments and Climate Risk Assessments, helping to identify physical and transition risks and opportunities for assets.
- Research and Regulatory Monitoring: Conduct research on evolving environmental regulations, sustainability standards, and best practices relevant to EDD, ESG, certification schemes, EU Taxonomy, and climate risk methodologies.
Your Profile Experience
- Relevant engineering/building services/architectural degree
- Minimum ~1-2 years experience within a building engineer/architectural/surveying or technical consultant role
- Proficient in English and Spanish, both written and verbal
- Flexible to travel and complete work/site visits across Europe (and UK if required)
- Excellent report writing and communication skills are required
- Confident with business development along with managing and building relationships with clients, internal stakeholders and other external contacts
- Knowledgeable in statutory compliance, regulations and standards relating to operational/existing building services in Spain
- Working knowledge of and ability to identify and provide professional advice for MEP building services
